A fragment finds a Christmas hymnlude praising the Babe of Bethlehem and a bustling holiday supplement page touting ads and reading matter. Local items note navigation on the Scioto, a moored ferry, holiday shopping weather, Moore monument work, school vacation, Thanksgiving and New Year sales, a jewelry heist, and various store promotions across Third and Market streets.
A holiday supplement lists Christmas programs across Portsmouth churches. Sixth Street Methodist reports 150 scholars and 22 teachers with a 7 pm tree unveiling and pastor’s address. Bigelow M E Church tallies 200 scholars and 30 teachers with 3 pm Christmas program. Other churches note carols, Christmas trees, gifts, and varied services through Christmas Eve and Day.
We could not obtain the planned programme from the Baptist Sunday School officers by press time. The missing outline prevents detailing the schedule, activities, and speakers for the upcoming session.
The drawing for holiday gifts at F C Herms will occur next Friday morning at 1:30. About 200 tickets remain, offering a final chance to win.
