Major General Lewis B. Hershey, selective service chief, said men under 26 are scarcer and hinted at a 10 to 20 percent rise in local draft board calls. He outlined new regulations giving boards more autonomy and requiring deferment holders to prove work alignment, aiming to align drafts with war production needs amid mounting casualties.
William Pickrel announced the end of efforts to overturn the November election results in Ohio. He cited insufficient precinct-by-precinct gains and said he could not justify continuing a costly recount of Summit and Lucas counties.
