City crews repair a hole near the Mill Street sewer as water backs into the river channel. Acting City Manager Charles Stevenson said the hole will be filled with rock and soil after the patching, with flood defense pumps directing flow over the floodwall during the rise.
Odessa Andre, deputy sheriffs report, claimed she touched the 124 gauge shotgun to bluff her husband, a steelworker and father of four, as he allegedly abused her during a family dispute. Andre was wounded in the left hip and hospitalized. authorities say no charges filed until his condition improves and the investigation concludes.

In Rio, Braziliaa Coffee Exchange president denied speculation involvement.
A YMCA member drive continues into the first two or three days of the coming week after a Friday night dinner closed the formal campaign. Walter L. Mitchell announced the drive would extend as organizers push beyond 1950 members. Workers reported 892 names already on the roster, with Charles Baker praising the team.
A Minford area family of 11 faced Christmas loss after a fire destroyed their seven room log house on White Gravel road. Lawrence Keeton, age 2, died in the blaze.
