Washington June 26 Congress readies to receive President Hoover’s expected veto of the Johnson Veterans Relief Bill. The House and Senate passed it but the House plans to uphold the veto and enact a substitute bill addressing the president’s objections to aid World War service members.

Endurance Plane Meets Difficulties

Chicago June 26 four Huntt er boys of Sparta Illinois staked nearly all their money on an endurance flight that could surpass the record if continued. At 3 40 a m the plane had 347 hours aloft and faced a serious leak in the gasoline tank requiring hazardous night refueling as they repair the leak and push toward a possible 200000 dollar payoff.

Bonfire Notice Seeks Citywide Materials for July Fourth

The Bonfire Committee asks all residents within the city limits to notify the telephone line 526 of any material suitable for the bonfire on the South Playgrounds the night before the Fourth. Three Killed as Uprising Begins in Mexico

El Paso reports that Chihuahua Governor Almada Inte declared Juarez the state capital after followers of Manuel Prieto seized the government palace in Chihuahua City. Three deputies and the state police chief were killed, as Prieto supporters fought for control. Governor Almada fled to Juarez by plane to coordinate with the federal government.

New angle in Chicago investigation revealed

Alfred J. Lingle, Chicago Tribune reporter, slain June 9, carried a joint stock market account with former Police Commissioner William Russell. The state attorney's office disclosed a $100,000 pool, and Russell admitted a market partnership while denying other dealings. He resigned after the slaying and now serves as police captain. James Fuller, formerly manager of the Shattuck Shipyard hotels, was in town.

Southern Cross Heads Toward New York After Atlantic Flight

The Southern Cross sped toward New York after leaving Harbor Grace Newfoundland at 3 55 p m EST. Captain Kingsford Smith and crew including Van Dyk Saul and Stannage expected to reach New York around midnight EST, with cheers planned in Lynn Massachusetts for Bernt Balchen and Frederick Melville.

Hough Lebanon Bank Wrecker Granted Pardon

Concord June 26 Arthur Hough former treasurer of defunct People’s Trust Co Lebanon who served years for embezzling over 225000 was pardoned by Gov Charles W Tobey and council. He had been a model prisoner and will return to Lebanon to his wife and two children as liquidation of the firm continues. Alfred Sole and daughter Plessie of Montreal visited Old Orchard Beach this week.
