Gas price rise eyed as Ford plan faces specifics

Federal Energy Administrator Frank G. Zarb warned on ABC that President Ford's energy conservation program could lift gasoline to near 70 cents a gallon. He said the proposed conservation taxes would be recycled to the economy, while noting the administration's plan would add 14 to 15 cents a gallon and a Ways and Means bill about 23 cents in time. The House bill stalled after leadership delays. Zarb linked higher prices to two new import duties on crude oil, saying the tax hike would mainly hit gasoline.
