Siamese toad found by Point Comfort boy

David Hoffman, son of Mr and Mrs Bobbie Hoff man, Point Comfort, found a siamese toad with fused front feet and underdeveloped back legs behind his home. The pair could not be separated without harm. Hoff man planned to have experts examine the unusual amphibian.

State Supreme Court Ousts Judge Carrillo

The Texas Supreme Court ordered the removal of O. P. Carrillo of Benavides from the 229th Judicial District. It marked the first time the court removed a judge on the Judicial Qualifications Commission's advice, with Carrillo appealing the Senate removal.

Alcoa Seeks Permit to Dredge Mercury Soils at Point Comfort

Aluminum Co of America asks Texas Parks and Wildlife for authorization to dredge nearly two million cubic yards of mercury contaminated silt from its Point Comfort channel. A TPWD examiner voices concern over sparse grab samples. Dredge spoil would be disposed in a lagoon two miles east, with water return piped back to the channel. Authorities note mercury levels are among the highest on the Texas coast. Several agencies objected to initial disposal plans and required a high ground site.

Insurance firms ask the Texas State Insurance Board for an average 27.9 percent increase in private passenger auto rates citing inflation.
