Bill Clears First Test On Gun Control Measure
Washington AP A Senate Judiciary subcommittee approved a gun control bill without objection and sent it to the full committee. A vote is not expected before Christmas recess. The bill would establish a waiting period for handgun purchases and add penalties for felons using firearms in crimes. The House previously approved a related bill, but it does not ban handgun sales or require gun registration. The panel rejected Sen Hart's proposal to outlaw private handgun ownership.
