The Port Isabel Jaycees designate October 7 to 14 as Operation Sparkle to clean alleys streets and beautify the city. The effort ends October 14 with a cemetery cleanup and appeals for service clubs to join. Calvin Byrd and Benny Ochoa III chair the project for more information.

Garment sleepwear through size 6X must pass flammability tests if made after July 29. James L. Evans of South Padre Island has earned state health department certification as a water ecologist after completing a training course prescribed by the Texas Water Utilities Association. The Bahai Mar Resort announced his certification where he serves as maintenance and grounds manager.
