County to Re Value Boats for Tax Roll
Cameron County commissioners tentatively approve a reef value survey for shrimp boats and pleasure craft to place on the tax rolls. Marine Appraisers Dierlam will conduct the appraisal after a Cameron County Taxpayers League presentation. The league threatens legal action to force valuation on fair market basis and cites a successful Port Isabel re valuation. About $20,000 is allocated for the firm with Friday talks to formalize a contract. Officials estimate $50,000 to $60,000 annual tax gain. The piece also notes the nationwide Buddy Poppy Sale by the Veterans of Foreign Wars since 1922 to aid disabled veterans and families.
