Isle City Hall Contract Let
A contract for the construction of a city hall police station on South Padre Island was awarded to C L Shaw Construction Company by the Board of Aldermen at a special meeting on Wednesday March 8. Shaw bid 155000 defeated San Antonio Construction at 172000 and Bill Right Construction at 175000. Audience opposition claimed funds were not in the year budget and that priorities delayed a new city hall. The Aldermen amended the budget to allow surplus funds 292687 as of 12 31 1977 and capital investments of 221200. They authorized mayor and town secretary to sign contracts, obtain a short term loan from Island Bank repayable from budget funds, and arrange loan documents. Residents questioned drainage and street repair funding while surplus funds appeared. The issue was referenced to Judge Filemon Vela and the matter to court (Continued on Page 2A).
