Hatchery Produces First Speckled Trout
Parks and Wildlife biologists at Olmito State Fish Hatchery report their first successful speckled trout spawn. About 5 000 eggs hatched May 19 after hormone-induced spawning on May 17. Eggs hatched in a striped bass style incubator with phytoplankton sustenance. If survive, fry may be raised to stock freshwater lakes and improve forage fish stocks.
