McDonough enlisted in January 1972 and flies SH-2F Seasprite for antisubmarine warfare and missile defense.
Coast Guard Boatswain’s Mate Third Class Jesse E Chavez wife Rosaura Zamora of Port Isabel Tex aided the seizure of the shrimp boat Capt Wayne after a May 4 patrol in the Gulf of Mexico. Durable crew of 61 escorted the vessel 325 miles east of Brownsville to Galveston where customs agents took charge. The 210 foot cutter Durables mission includes search and rescue and law enforcement. Chavez joined the Coast Guard in February 1970. The report notes 68 million gallons of Persian Gulf crude oil spilled from an American tanker near the French coast.
