Registration for pre school will be taken at 8 am Friday at Queen Elementary School. Eligible children entering school will join an eight week program directed by Charlene Bobbitt Auralia Trevino Penelope Marlin and De Young Boudreaux. Marlin will provide basic music instruction.
The Texas International Fishing Tournament is scheduled for August 2 3 4 5 and 6 196? at Port Isabel. Mrs Tob Meade executive vice president directs the tourney and notes further meetings will fix operations and headquarters details for the event.
Summer sewing classes for eighth and ninth grade girls will be held at Port Isabel High School. Registration requires contacting the high school principal's office. Classes meet each morning from 10 to 12 and adult afternoon sessions run from 2 to 4.
Rep. Kika de la Garza is set to speak Friday June 1 at the Coast Guard LORAN ceremony in Port Isabel. The event marks construction of a 956000 dollar LORAN emitting facility at the south end of the Port Isabel station as part of a three station Gulf of Mexico network.
Funeral services for Fidel Barrera 13 of Port Teabel were held Tuesday at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Port Isabel after a drowning at a graduation party on South Padre Island. He died at Dolly Vinsant Memorial Hospital in San Benito. Survived by parents Andres and Mrs Barrera two sisters Margarita and Amalia and four brothers Andres Jr Alberto Casimiro and Reynaldo. Delta Funeral Home directed services.
