Padre Crossings Set New Four Day Record at South Padre Island
South Padre Island broke its four day record with 9,184 crossings of the Queen Isabella Causeway from Friday to Monday during the Fourth of July period. Cameron County Parks Director Larry Allen said crowds likely totaled 40,000 to 50,000 people, noting many trucks carried large groups. Through June, crossings totaled 152,891, 20 percent above last year, with July expected as the peak month.
