Area Girls Compete In Los Fresnos Fair
The Los Fresnos Lions Club Old Fashioned Country Fair and Cameron County Livestock Show take place Saturday at Dean Porter Park. Events start with swine judging in the hog arena with Wayne Elliott as judge, then 1 pm livestock judging in the main arena led by Bobby Turner. A 4 pm tractor rodeo closes the day with prizes awarded in showmanship and breed classes.

Ben W. Duggin Dies In Houston
Ben W. Duggin, 6, of Sugar Land, a retired Houston businessman and father of Mrs. Paul P. Maire Jr. of Port Isabel, died Sunday in a Houston hospital. Survivors include his wife Lucy Terry Duggin, another daughter, two sisters, and eight grandchildren. He previously manufactured trunks in Houston. Burial services were held at Forest Park Cemetery in Houston.

Five Hurt In Collision In Port Isabel Area
Five people were injured Tuesday in a collision at Manau tou and Maxan Streets in Port Isabel in front of the Port Isabel Police Station. Victims include Mr. and Mrs George W. Harrison of Laguna Vista and Mr. and Mrs. John F Buster of El Paso, passengers in one vehicle, and Mrs. Hilda Costello of Port Isabel. Mrs. Costello was treated at Mercy Hospital and released on request. The others were admitted for treatment at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen. The Harrison vehicle traveled north on Maxon Street while the Costello vehicle came from the south. No charges had been filed and the crash remained under investigation Wednesday.
