The Episcopal Church in the 300 block of Adams Street will dedicate on Wednesday February 20 at 7 30 p m with Bishop R E Dicus of San Antonio presiding A reception follows at the Dunns North Shore Drive and attendance is invited by Port Isabel residents and Winter visitors.
The county chest X-ray unit returns to Port Isshel on February 25 and 26. It will operate 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm on Monday and 8:30 am to 5 pm on Tuesday at the Torres Building near Hubble's Barber Shop. All adults over 1 year and food handlers need a chest X-ray certificate by city ordinance, available at the cost during the visit. If missed, food handlers must pay later out of pocket.
City officials report a sharp rise in fly population in Port Esabel with estimates well over a million. Dr. S A Youngberg investigates sources at fish houses and ports while considering spraying options and potential city funding. Mayor Hockaday notes the Green blow fly may recede once breeding sites are removed.

Eriterio Pena of Port Isabel was treated at Mercy hospital for minor injuries after his car struck a cement culvert at Baysale. Patrolman Don Hoyd said Pena was shaken but not seriously hurt and was jailed on driving while intoxicated charges.
The Port Isabel City Commission hires Co. L. Bradley as a city patrolman for general police duties effective February 1. Bradley, a former local resident and lifeguard, has worked in Albuquerque police units and served in the armed forces. The mayor and officials pledge firmer enforcement while avoiding a hardline crackdown and stress cooperation with the state.
Mrs John Cernelia and Mrs William Bellinhausen attended the Home Demonstration council meeting at the Methodist church building in San Benito on Thursday morning.

Property owners in the Port Isabel area are urged to contact the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce to submit a rental card list. The card, with owner name and address, will be sent to Corpus Christi Naval Base for Navy personnel relocating to the area. Cards should be filled soon to facilitate timely housing as the base activates.
More than 200 citizens attend the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce annual banquet. remarks by Lt commander Huston and other out‑of‑town guests highlight community needs, military base activity, and plans for a stronger chamber.
