Loyalists' Betrayal and Defiance in 1833 Kendall Memo
A sharply critical letter condemns Postmaster Amos Kendall for supporting Confederate interests and defying federal law during a dispute over anti slavery publications. It accuses Kendall of elevating a “higher law” of slavery over the Constitution and urges vigilance against a northern rebuke. The account also relays battlefield letters from Fort Donelson and a long report from the Pomeroy Weekly Telegraph on Civil War sorties and loyalist sentiments.
