Amaong the Shakers-His Experience with Two Pretty Shakeressee
An 1850s style oddball piece recounts Artemus Ward’s encounter with Shaker women and a clock, mixing humorous dialogue about marriage among Shakers with observations on their attire and decor, set beside a broader miscellany of notices and advertisements. The text also covers a curiosity about Shaker life, a playful scene at table, and a later item about reverse timekeeping amidst a collection of unrelated notes.
