Democratic Faction Fights Split as Lincoln Victory Looms
The piece traces Pennsylvania and national Democratic rifts after Baltimore, accusing leaders of treachery and disunionism, notes Douglas and Breckinridge factions jockeying for fusion, predicts Lincoln gains in the North and Breckinridge strength in the South, and cites Missouri and North Carolina elections shaping November’s showdown. It also reports the death of Isaac A. Rice, Republican candidate for Congress.

The Overwhelming Moral Sense of Presidential Contest
From the New York Herald discussion, the North stands united against slavery while the South sags into disarray. The piece argues Lincoln will win with Republican unity, warns of factional plots, and frames the 1860 campaign as a moral clash over slavery, predicting partisan dissolution or dissolution of the Union if pro slavery forces prevail.
