A neatly dressed man in his late 20s or early 30s stopped at the Progress office near noon last Tuesday asking for three minutes. He carried a zippered briefcase, wore a bold knot tie, and reflected a preoccupation with dress as a sign of business ambition while the writer weighs style versus thought.
Mr and Mrs Robert Fishler announce the birth of a daughter Stacey Jo in Central City born Tuesday September 18 weighing 6 pounds 7 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Ross Tarr.
William Garling of Olathe celebrated his 90th birthday with a dinner at a restaurant. Attendees included family from Olathe Gardner and Tekamah Nebraska, plus friends who sent cards and gifts from Polk Nebraska where he formerly resided.
St Edward Beavers defeated Polk Cubs 39 to 19 on the St Edward field. Key plays included a 70 yard kickoff return by C Micek and a series of Beavers touchdowns that built a 26 13 halftime lead. The Cubs fought back to tie twice but could not overcome the Beavers explosive long runs and stout defense.
Hazel Hill’s second graders at Polk Public School in Polk County Nebraska wrote a class constitution on Constitution Day September 17 1973. The students listed six commitments including good listening, citizenship, fair play and best effort and signed by eleven classmates and the teacher. The room features a television display and a Wiggle Machine to manage attention and express emotions in a calm environment.
