The Swede Plain WSCS met in the church with Mrs. Lennis Lind as prayer leader. Program leaders were Mrs. Cliff Carlson and Mrs. Walter Stohl. Mrs. Lloyd Lind read "The Master is Coming" with Mrs. Willard Adelson at the piano. Hostesses Mrs. Philip Johnson and Mrs. Robert Shostrom served refreshments to members and one visitor.
Gaylen Holmes son of Mrs Paul Holmes will graduate Saturday September 23 from the Hermann Hospital School of Physical Therapy in Houston Texas He has accepted a position in Physical Therapy at Crippled Children Hospital in Sioux Falls South Dakota He and his wife Jeanelle Kroger and their daughter Laurie Ann will visit Polk briefly before moving to Sioux Falls
The ALCW of Calvary Lutheran Church Swede Home hosted a September 14 gathering with guests from Stromsburg Osceola Hordville Central City Polk Benedict Marquette and Rising City. Pastor Paul M. DeFreese Hastings spoke on Christ uniting believers as a wheel hub with Christians as spokes. A ladies octet sang How Great Thou Art and lunch for 200 followed.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Ramsey and family and Mr Lester Rehrs were Friday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Henry Reeb.
The board approved payment of several expenses including bus labor and a life atlas. It hired Dean Samuelson as a bus driver for 1961 62 at 100.00 monthly and Rev Lester Felker as a bus driver. It decided by ballot between Farmers Coop Oil and Polk Oil Co for fuel oil, granting the contract to Polk Oil Co. Gerald A Stevens secretary.
The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion Hall on September 11 for the regular monthly meeting. Highlights include minutes approved, treasurer's report, and committee appointments. Lauretta Neuhaus reported on the Grand Island state convention. Doris Ostberg on the Legion Steak Supper. invited members to the County convention in Shelby on September 21 at 2:00 p.m. Miss Joan Larkin reported on her Girls State week. A lunch was provided by Francis Widga, Laura Bolton, Mrs Van Ostrand, and Jo Ostberg.
The Village Board met September 5, 1961 in regular session at 8 p.m. with all members present. Minutes approved. Reports read and accepted. A 5 year contract with Consumers Public Power District approved. Bills totaling numerous items were allowed and warrants issued. roll call: Ayes Babcock Meline Brazda Eklund. Meeting adjourned.
