The American Bankers Association reports record savings in the past year with total deposits surpassing 28.4 billion dollars as of June 30 1928 and over 63 million individual accounts. Gains across 1928 include 2.5 million new depositors and a per capita rise of 17 dollars while New England and Middle Atlantic states show the highest per person growth.

Hog herd outlook shows decline to 87 million head

The Pork Outlook reports hogs on the farm at an estimated 87 million, down from 92 million a year earlier, a drop over five percent. With fewer hogs, fall pig crop likely to shrink, suggesting shorter supplies into the next year.
