Higher parcel post rates will go into effect Saturday October 19 The local parcel delivery rises from 40 to 50 cents and local destination minimum to 60 cents Most parcels up to 110 dollars increase by 10 and 80 percent of parcels see a rise A 15 cent hike applies to parcels between 1 10 and 4 00 and 20 cents over 4 00 The changes aim to make 4th class mail break even Also mailing deadlines for Christmas gifts to servicemen are listed including November 9 for large surface packages November 23 for small space available and December 1 to 11 for airmail.
Polk County notes list Mr and Mrs Lynn Benson and Tim my and Lisa of Kearney as weekend guests of Mr and Mrs Paul Stevens with Lincoln visits on Saturday. Mr and Mrs L C Orendorff and Mr and Mrs Richard Sealey, Sr attended dinners and ALCS convention in Lincoln.
The Cubs overcame the Tigers 13 to 9 in a close game with Mark Wood breaking free for a 59 yard TD run. Polk scored on a late drive and Palmer fought to respond before the final whistle. The Cubs host Henderson Huskies at 7 30 this Friday.

Mr and Mrs Edwin Nyberg of Holdrege and Miss Linda Nyberg of Lincoln were weekend guests in the Rudolph Nyberg home.
