Mr and Mrs L E Killion of Polk announce the engagement of their daughter Glee Annie to Mr Max R Larsen son of Mr Rodney Larsen of Stromsburg. Miss Killion is employed by Dr B T Parminter of Stromsburg and Mr Larsen works for Grain Products Company of Stromsburg. A November 6 wedding is planned.
The Progress contest crowns Becky Carlstrom five dollars richer after she correctly picked a winner while brother Ken missed eight games. Lanny Ang placed second with several close calls. Becky erred on Penn State Colorado and Nebraska Christian Silver Creek.
The Cubs defeated Genoa 20 to 0 on home turf for their second conference victory. Dennis Baack opened scoring with a first quarter plunge from the Genoa three-yard line and Polk’s squad dominated with multiple runs and passes before closing out the game.
Miss Vicki Stromberg of Fort Collins Colorado begins duties as a Pan American Airways stewardess. She trained in Miami and New York and is based in New York. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs William Stromberg of Fort Collins and granddaughter of Mr and Mrs B C Stromberg of Stromsburg Nebraska.
Relatives in San Jose California report the death of Walter Brestel a lawyer in San Jose and grandson of the late Ed Stevens a former Polk resident after a plane crash last Sunday afternoon.
Mrs Ed Coover entered Central City hospital on Saturday and Mrs Hannah Hahn returned home Thursday from Osceola hospital.
The 41st annual District 7 American Legion and Auxiliary convention met in Polk on Sunday September 27 with a day of sessions and a banquet. New district commander Medford Barry and Vice Commander Ed Farr were elected. 283 attended the banquet.
