Legion Ladies Pack Gifts For Service Men
The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion Hall with 27 members. They prepared $5 gift boxes for hospitalized veterans and planned a Christmas party with white elephant gifts. Bloodmobile visit to Shelby on Nov 26 was announced, and Lauretta Neuhaus named county chairman. An Americanism essay contest for high school juniors and seniors will again award $5 first and $2.50 second. A medal or pin will be given for best 7th and 8th grade essay. Community boxes of candy and cookies were prepared for servicemen. Mr August Nelson was hospitalized in Grand Island after a stroke. his condition remained critical.

The Lutheran Choral Union of York area will broadcast a radio program on ICMMJ December 7 at 2 30 PM for the second time. They seek funds through a sponsorship plan to buy gowns for the choir. Interested sponsors contact Arnold Joseph in Hampton Nebraska. The annual concert is set for York on November 30.

Newborn in Stromsburg Hospital Born to Kealther Family
A baby boy weighing 8 pounds 15 ounces was born Monday November 10 at Stromsburg Hospital to Mr and Mrs Noel Kealther. In Haxtun Colorado, 12 day old Douglas Paul came to live with Mr and Mrs Paul Ruch on November 7. Mrs Ruch formerly Lela Binford.

WCTU Convention Held In Polk
The WCTU County Convention met at the Polk Methodist Church on November 11 with strong attendance and active engagement. Rev. Nels Pearson led morning devotions and Rev. Milton O Connor delivered the temperance sermon. musical offerings from students and duets were presented and a noon luncheon was served. An afternoon program included organ preludes, devotions by Rev Swenson Osceola, an Evangelist Davis talk, performances by Mrs Harvey Lind Mrs Willard Adelson and Miss Jeanette Widen, displays for a Veteran s Hospital, a film show, and closing coffee and doughnuts.

Methodists Hold Reception For Teachers
A welcome reception for Pastor Rev O Connor and family plus Polk school teachers was held at the Methodist Church parlor. Mrs Lloyd Kroger served as mistress of ceremonies with remarks by H E Warren and introductions by Mrs Roger and Mrs Leslie Adelson. Osceola host W W Norton shared European slides while James Lindbury led a community sing along. The event drew 125 adults and children, ending with a light lunch.

Lois Miller, Polk High Pep Club president, was named 1952 Football Queen and Gaylen Holmes crowned Football King during the halftime ceremony at the Polk and St. Paul game. Several seniors and players, including Annette Wilshusen and Duane Johnson, returned as last year’s royalty.
