Be L King and H H Campbell visited Osceola. Various residents traveled to Lincoln York and Grand Island. Polk school events include a Halloween masquerade party a Junior senior dance and a Duroc Jersey sale. The Polk football team beat Shelby 24 to 0. A stance against naturalization renunciants calls for deportation. Blair Pilot.
The J. H. Bell mansion at Ninth and Lincoln sold to O. A. Rystrom for 10500. The old house, built by F. O. Bell, will be demolished to make way for a new Rystrom Implement Company building with ample garage space. The site marks the farthest north point in York's business district.
The next regular teachers examination will be held at the county courtroom on Saturday November 15 1919. The number of examinations for 1919 is limited. To be ready on time for next year's work begin preparations on the 15th. Forenoon subjects include Civil Government Orthography Mental Arithmetic Penmanship Algebra Geometry Reading Music Written Arithmetic. Afternoon subjects include Agriculture Physiology Drawing Theory and Art Botany Physics Geography United States History and Grammar.
G M Hill and wife visited Central City Aurora and York on Sunday with Red Cross participation from Nov 2 to 11. G M Hill named numerator for West Pleasant Home by Chas M Grosvenor of Aurora, Census Supervisor for the 4th district.
Don Bauder visited Central on business Tuesday. Mr and Mrs T A Lundberg were Hampton visitors Sunday. Asceola high school comes Friday to play football with the Pok Progressives. Miss Bess Evans stayed with friends in Shelby from Thursday to Tuesday. Mrs Dora Berger and Miss Mildred Nelson joined W A Wurtz and wife for a Lincoln auto trip Saturday. Mr and Mrs Claus Peterson and daughter Esther visited Stromsburg friends Sunday afternoon.
Polk county reports considerable repair work on the Platte river bridge south of Silver Creek. The bridge will close to all but foot travel for several weeks, with about two months expected for completion. If weather holds, light travel may resume once piling is driven, roughly in three weeks. John Lisco leads the project and will strive to open the bridge as soon as possible. Silver Creek Sand notes the war is over yet the Red Cross remains active.
