Reverend E E Pengelly announces worship at 10:00 on Sunday with Sunday School at 11:00. All Swede Plain children are invited to Vacation Bible School in Polk starting Tuesday morning. Memorial message planned Sunday and Decoration Day services in Town Auditorium Monday.
Im Lutheran Church announces regular services next Sunday and a Luthern Hour Rally in Omaha at 3 30 p m with speaker Dr Walter A Maier Visitors are welcome to attend
The Methodist Church schedules Sunday School at 10, Morning Worship at 11, and Evening Service at 7 30. A Union Memorial Service will honor fallen service members with Rev. R. Mr. Bailey preaching. Ex service men are urged to attend. Vacation Bible School starts Tuesday May 31 from 9 to 11 30 each day for high school age children.
The notice lists weekly church events led by Pastor L J Montzingen with Sunday School at 10:00, Morning Worship at 11:00, YPMS at 7:15 PM, and Evangelistic Service at 8:00 PM. Thursday Prayer Meeting is at 8:00 PM.

A Young Peoples Meeting and Junior Endeavor are set for Wednesday at 8 p m. Daily Vacation Bible School runs for two weeks starting May 30 in cooperation with the Baptist Church.

Walther Leaguers and friends gathered at Viking Hall for a May 23 dinner marking the 45th anniversary of the International Walther League. Edgar Rhode MC'd a program themed Forward with music, readings, and a candle lighting service led by Rev. Panning of Central City.
Polk merchants and produce stations organize Rooster Day to benefit poultry producers and buyers. Sellers will receive several cents above market price for roosters post hatch, with scrip accepted by merchants at par or higher. Aimed at improving egg quality and reducing feed costs.
A group of 28 ladies met at Mrs Nelson King’s home Monday afternoon to celebrate her birthday. The gathering was social with a lunch served at the end and many beautiful and useful gifts were given to the honoree.
A Ful lerton Journal reprints Congressman Lamberton of Kansas contrasting an old exchange where a farmer had two shirts and a city man two chickens with a New Deal plan. Under planning the farmer sells one chicken for the same money, shirts double in price, leaving both with one shirt and one chicken and a publicist claiming they are better off.
Mrs. lof Ostberg and two sons dined at Orlie Miller home Sunday. A fishing trip to Genoa was enjoyed by Albert Peterson and Ilof Ostberg. Multiple families visited the Ostberg, Reed, Sundberg, Bolton, Bush, and Davis households during the week. A baby boy was born to LeRoy Schultz and Irene Bush, daughter of George Bush. A. D. Dover is hospitalized in Grand Island for medical treatment. Mrs. H. G. Brauer plans a Montana visit to her daughter J Hi Kruse. Several Clarks, Schuyler, and Lincoln residents attended gatherings and picnics in the area.
Doris McCoy hosts a welcome event for Willits, Max Peterson, and Billy Allison as Rev. E. E. Pengelly presides and an audience attends.
Osceola residents recall a surprise party hosted by Genevieve Hartson and Mrs. Fred Deland for Floyd Hartson. Guests enjoyed refreshments as gifts were exchanged. The news notes visits from E L Ingram, Berniece Welch, Opal Lierman, and others, with travel plans and local engagements noted. Memorial Day closures announced for Osceola stores.
Mayor Arnold Isaacson receives a greeting from Grand Island Mayor Thomas M. Dillon congratulating Polk on its first air mail service and predicting broader daily air mail links nationwide. Dillon hopes good crop conditions will help city and community development move forward.
Arborville residents report weekend visits and dinners among neighbors including the Bowers Flick Wochner and Cramer families. Memorial Day services are set for 2 00 PM in the Arborville Town Hall. Jackie Lee Geverin, two, died at York hospital. survived by his parents and two sisters.
The Baptist and Free Mission Churches start Vacation Bible School at the Baptist church Monday at 8 30. It runs May 30 through June 10 with a closing program June 12. No tuition. Miss Lillie Lind returns as superintendent and a skilled staff will lead two weeks of activities.
Miss Meta Butzke daughter of Rev and Mrs Wm Butzke married Herman Zwick son of Mrs Johnetta Zwick of Staplehurst Saturday in a Seward home ceremony. They plan a farm home near Staplehurst after a brief Colorado wedding trip. Miss Butzke is well known in the area with ties to Immanuel Lutheran Church through her father.
Last Friday at 8:00 p.m. the high school auditorium hosted commencement exercises. Valedictorian Max Peterson, salutatorian Doris Nyberg, and historian Elaine Klute led a program including invocations, solos by Betty Jo Alfred and Wilbur Whitacre, an address by Dr. L. T. Laase, diploma and scholarship presentations, and diplomas by Secretary Carl Steelquist. Trumpet duet by Billy Allison and Max Peterson closed the event.
The 129 year old account describes Dr Ephraim McDowell of Danville removing a 22.5 pound ovarian tumor from Jane Todd Crawford without anesthesia or assistants. Crawford rode home on her horse 25 days later and lived in health. The piece credits the operation with opening abdominal surgery and notes rising life expectancy due to better medical care.
A statewide Crops Field Day is planned for Wednesday June 15 at the college of agriculture. The morning features a weed ID contest and discussions on hybrid corn and wheat handling. The afternoon includes a farm tour, updates on crop developments, and study of a rust resistant wheat No 1063 along with new grass nurseries and containment measures for spreading grass.
