Senior Class Night and Commencement Highlights

The week featured the annual Class Night at the high school auditorium with performances by choirs duets and a presentation of gifts to the school. Commencement for the Class of 1950 followed Thursday evening with Rev Elwood Anderson delivering the invocation and Paul L Johnson addressing values for today. A school picnic occurred Friday with 200 attendees. Memorial Day Tribute Lists Polk and Arborville Veterans

York editor is memorial day speaker

Ben Kuroki, noted American veteran of Japanese descent, will speak at Memorial Day services. He flew over 50 missions in World War II and earned three Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Air Medal with six Oak Leaf clusters, and ten battle stars. He toured to promote democracy and combat racial prejudice, and now owns the York Republican. Eight Nebraska editors visit York to assist in his inaugural issue.

Farewell Party for Earl Rasmussen and Home Society

A farewell gathering at Mrs. Earl Rasmussen’s home honored the retiring member of the Home Society and friends joined to wish him well. A two course luncheon was served and a gift was presented as the couple prepares to move to Madison Nebraska.

Polk Youth Killed in Highway 66 Crash

Roy Blender 20 died after a tire blowout caused his car to overturn on highway 66 west of Polk. He was taken to Stromsburg hospital but died at 4 a.m. Survivors include his parents two brothers and two sisters.

New Trees Planted on Methodist Church Lawn

The Young Adults of the Methodist church gathered Monday evening to plant eight evergreen trees on the church lawn as a beautification project. The trees were donated by Edward May of Shanendoah Jr. About thirty参加 participants ended the evening with a weiner roast. Later, local residents Mr. and Mrs. Wil Kroger Mr. and Mrs. Neal McNaught and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Kroger visited in Grand Island at Homer Branting's home with Mr. and Mrs. Thos Matzen and children, who had just returned from Africa. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Benson of Hordville were also guests.

Merry Makers Organize For 1950 4 H Club

The Merry Makers 4 H club met May 17 at leader Mrs Paul Strand’s home with eight members present. Officers were elected: Jo Ann Nelson president Judy Johnson vice president Carlyn Strand secretary Mary Lou Sandell news reporter Sally Peterson game chair Carmen Sandell Rosalie Nelson special number committee Harleen Johnson song leader.
