Polk Milling Company elected officers on Monday evening with L. O. Glad as President Oscar Strand as Vice President N. B. Nyberg as Secretary T. A. Lundberg as Treasurer and Carl McNeely as Manager The mill is in its early days but has shown satisfactory growth and local business leaders are urged to support the enterprise.
The M E Church plans a memorial sermon next Sunday at 11 30 inviting Civil War and Spanish American War veterans and other soldiers. The evening service moves to the Baptist church for a Baccalaureate sermon. The World Wide Guild met at Mr and Mrs C H Lindburg with Miss Ellen Bay leading a program. Kubista family moved from Osceola to Polk. Mr K will drive on Myers drag line and help the band in summer concerts. Rystrom Implement house interior remodeled with Bert Sedam as boss superintendent. The Viking theatre will host And Home Came Ted presented by Polk High School seniors. Mr and Mrs Mack moved to Polk occupying rooms at J C Eckles home. A local reunion at York drew many. Wall paper now at Jacks Drug Store.
Sealed bids will be received at the office of the Village Clerk up to 8 oclock June 3rd 1919 for the construction of sidewalks street and alley crossings for the fiscal years according to specifications on file at the clerk s office Minor changes have been made in the specifications Serg Frank Anderson who arrived home this week spent thirteen months in overseas service in Germany part of the time as a member of the 128th infantry 32nd division He escaped injury though his clothing was torn by bullets and shrapnel He wears a sharpshooter medal and landed in New York May 6th arriving in Polk Monday This week Home coming theater notice and promotion for good roads are noted in the report
Automobiles will leave from the band stand at 10 oclock for LaClede and Polk cemeteries to decorate soldiers graves. Veteran J. MeBay in charge. At 2 30 band parade of returned soldiers and sailors Boy Scouts Home Guards march to park and decorate a monument honoring heroes from this community who gave their lives in World War One. Then military salute, followed by program at the opera house with Invocation Address Benediction and music by local quartette and singers.
