Polking: Railway hearing ends with railroad win over station agents
The State Railway Commission backed Union Pacific’s plan to discharge rail way station agents on its Polk line. Agent Larry Kil Hon receives a June 15 pink slip after hearings in Polk where grain elevator operators opposed the railroad. Critics say the process felt pre decided and non public. The obituary notes the passing of Edith Johnson, Polk oldtimer and community mother, and recalls Vic Johnson and their long local ties. A shoplifting item list includes six chocolate Easter bunnies, slippers, and chapstick, prompting reflection on newspaper partisanship.
