The Nebraska attorney general rules women may vote in spring elections under the 1917 partial suffrage act. They may vote for national officers such as the president, county officers including clerk and sheriff, city and school district posts, and on questions submitted to voters such as bond issues, with certain exceptions.
Last Friday evening a banquet was tendered to the Polk Community Band in the parlors of the M E church. An elaborate menu was served at seven thirty with forty covers including band members wives and friends. Table decorations featured baskets of spring flowers while music by Miss Alice Tewell and Merwin Johnson accompanied the event. Albert Sundberg served as toastmaster and impromptu toasts were given by Rev A H Nickell Rev H W Cope and Dr G L Spencer.
Miss Myrtle Honsinger of Seattle Wash was a guest of the A W Shafer family the first of the week en route to New York. Halden of Stroomsburg De Seewith his sister, a
Lincoln March 24 House Roll No 85 passed both houses and was signed by the governor. The act requires a license for tractor sales in Nebraska, with state university engineers approving each model and dealers maintaining stock and service. License can be canceled if machines fail standards or stock is incomplete. The measure aims to reduce repair delays during peak farming season.
Joseph Curren born in Counts Down Ireland on September 11 1847 died March 22 1919 at age 71 years 6 months 11 days He came to the United States as a young man and married Ida Riley on September 1 1879 They had four children Harvey E Polk Josey S Central City Leonard B Palmer and Hallie who died in infancy An early Polk County settler he resided with his son Harvey in Polk at death Funeral services were held at his sister Mrs Nancy Burgess home in Osceola and he was buried in Osceola cemetery.
Card of thanks extends gratitude to neighbors who assisted in bereavement. Polk County American Red Cross headquarters moved to Shelby with Mrs. Henry Burritt as Chairman and Mrs. Roy Hartson as Secretary. Leonard Curren and family attended the funeral of Mr Curren senior.

Dennis Mills and Hazel Shockey were married on March 12 in Grand Island. The ceremony surprised some but had been foreseen by close friends. After the rites, the couple dined at Mrs. N. M. Martin’s apartments and will reside in Polk where Mills works at Polk Machine Works.
The French Army Band, composed of heroic musicians, will give a concert in Omaha at the Municipal Auditorium on April 7. Bach, a member, has been decorated for bravery in battle. A note: a nice assortment of plants arrived at Eckles' Variety Store.
A midwestern aircraft unit will visit New Orleans in April to showcase captured planes and celebrate Victory Liberty. French American aces will demonstrate aerial prowess as part of efforts to develop air fields in Europe.
The Polk district event notes March 29 30 with a Saturday afternoon session. Marshall Tewell arrives town after discharge and five months in track driving. People reflect health and plans with Mrs REL and Mrs Ostrund heading to Omaha Tuesday for a Kan visit.
