Polk Firemen Help Fight Two Fires
The Polk Volunteer Fire Department answered two calls this week. On Monday a blaze in Stromsburg gutted two buildings on the square East side, including a jewelry store and Econowash, with damage around 60000 dollars. The Stromsburg and Polk departments aided by Osceola. The fire was controlled by 10 p.m. That Tuesday morning, a barn at H P Tewell farm burned out of control, with livestock losses and grain and feed destroyed. Polk and Stromsburg crews dampened embers Wednesday afternoon.

Services Held For Mrs. George Wurtz
Funeral services were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church for Mrs. George Wurtz 79 a former Polk resident who died in a North Platte hospital after breaking her hip. Rev. Marvin Gruett officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery. Surviving are daughter Mrs. Clara Chamberlin sister Mrs Homer Branting of Grand Island brothers Judge E. G. Kroger and William Kroger of Polk.
