Red Cross Fund Drive Seeks Local Support
Solicitors will collect for the Red Cross Fund Drive with a $900 target for National Red Cross. Funds above the target will be split 68.2 percent to the local chapter and 31.8 percent to National. The Home Service program aids veterans and ex service veterans with many claims. Mrs. S. D. Evins chairs the drive.

Son of Former Residents Killed in Oregon
Kenneth Wilbur Ice 22 died Monday after a snag fell from a tree near the Martin sawmill struck him on the head. A World War II veteran and VFW member, he was born in Bandon December 18 1924 and is survived by his parents four sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church with Rev. E J Stubbs officiating. The Ice family were former residents of the county.

Polk Schools to Hold Big Circus and report Class C tournament results
The Big Circus postponed program is set for Tuesday March 11 at the High School Auditorium. Polk played in the Class C Tournament at Columbus last week winning 28-27 over Osceola and 52-27 over St Edward to reach the semifinals against St Bonaventure, which edged Polk 21-20 with a late field goal by St Bonaventure. In the consolation game Silver Creek won 31-28 as Polk fans filled the four nights. The Dramatics Class presented three one act plays and readings to a large audience Tuesday night.

Former Polk County Resident Imm Dies at 78
Robert C. Imm, 78, of Gresham Nebraska, died Friday at his daughter's Lincoln home after 75 years in Nebraska. Born in Wausa Wisconsin, he moved to Nebraska at three, lived 20 years in Silver Creek, then Gresham. A retired farmer and storekeeper, he belonged to Gresham Presbyterian church and was a 50-year Mason. Surviving include two daughters, four sons, 14 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers and a sister. Funeral Monday at 2 p.m. at Gresham Presbyterian Church with graveside rites by William Diers Lodge, A F and A M, at Gresham cemetery.
