Polking Around Finding a Summer Recreation Focus
A column notes sunburn and fishing at Lake McConaughy and lake reflections. It reports on Summer Recreation program turnout with 25 boys in the younger group and 18 out for Bruce Johnson’s older group, plus Wednesday games. It mentions girls softball practice under Coach Bill Lavelle and a polite anecdote on a young hitter. The piece ends with a train chat about Tanganyika and a traveler from East Africa named Bhanukhai H. Patel.

Bootstrap Tour Yields Surprises
County tour reports two pasture findings and crop tests. Cattle herds moved among four acres of row pasture and two and a half acres of wheatgrass, with high nitrogen phosphorus fertilizer plots yielding well. Workers also note native grasses on several farms and a new tall wheatgrass on alkali land.
