EN3 Leonard Warnick 21 killed on active duty in Vietnam awaiting funeral. Services set at St Vincent's Catholic Church Osceola with military rites by Lemuel R. Wilcox Post 160 Polk. Navy reports he fell from a patrol boat on the Kinhmojhat Canal June 7 and body recovered June 9. Warnick, Polk High School 1967 graduate, married Sandra Aker. survived by wife, daughter Alicia Marie, parents, and brother Anthony. He had Purple Heart for February wounding and had been stationed in California Illinois before Vietnam. Born Osceola January 14 1949.
Ella Shenk 92 longtime Polk resident died Sunday in an Osceola nursing home. Funeral services are today at 2 p.m. at Polk United Methodist Church with Rev. Deryl Reed officiating. Burial will be Arborville Cemetery. She was born November 10, 1877 in Polk County Iowa.
The Pork Woman's Club sponsors a six week summer reading program for children from age 4 through grade 6. Sessions run 2:30 to 3:30 each Wednesday starting June 24. Meet at the hotel lobby. contact Anne Moore at 765-2501 for details or to help.
Mr and Mrs Dennis Carlson of York welcomed a stillborn baby boy Brent Matthew born Saturday June 13 at York General Hospital. Funeral rites were held that afternoon with Rev Norman Hanneman present. Burial followed in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Polk.

Leona Van Housen Schaepler born January 19 1889 in Hamilton County Nebraska daughter of Henry and Minnie Van Housen died June 12 1970 after heart disease since 1969 at Aurora Hospital. Survived by daughters Vera and Delia sons in law Henry Blase and Raymond Stunkel four sisters one brother and many nieces and nephews. Services June 15 1970 at Immanuel Lutheran Church Polk Nebraska with Rev A H Wagner. interment Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery Polk.
Tuesday afternoon visitors included Mr and Mrs Oliver Baker of Benedict Mrs Alvena Lind and Mrs Richard Johnson Mr and Mrs Gary Green and children from Central City visiting Mrs Bessie Green on Tuesday afternoon and Sunday evening.
About 200 guests attended a farewell for Pastor Gene Wood and his family at First Baptist Church on Sunday evening June 14. The mens chorus performed and Dawn Killion and Loren Glasser sang solos. The Woods recalled six years in Polk with canoe trips and hikes as the group presented a gift, flowers, and corsages. Ice cream cake and coffee followed, with pink and white decorations.
Sue and Ilene Foote of Polk join The Heirborn gospel group for a ten week midwest tour under Trinity College Deerfield Illinois. The ensemble offers multiple vocal formats including quartets sextets trios and duets and will perform in churches camps and retreats across Illinois Minnesota Wisconsin North Dakota South Dakota Iowa and Indiana focusing on gospel music.

Eric W. Orstedt of Tucson Arizona died June 4 at age 68. He leaves a wife Sarah two sons John Iver Carl and daughter Clara Ann plus son-in law and three grandchildren in Singapore. Brothers and sisters in Sweden and Mrs Oscar Anderson of Polk also mourn. Funeral services were held June 9 at Bring Broadway Chapel Rev Goette officiated. Attending from Polk were Harold Reuben Lee and their mother Mrs Oscar Anderson. He and his twin brother Carl came to America from Sweden and Carl preceded him in death in 1939.
