Polk Band Concert Promises Fifth Summer Show

The Polk band under Norman McIntosh will play the second of five summer concerts this Saturday night following a space shoot event last week. County Red Cross Fails To Meet Quota

Polk County Red Cross misses its quota this year and asks residents to boost interest and volunteer workers. Blood bank chair Mrs. Don al Wieseman and Home Service chair Mrs. M. A. Millis Jr of Osceola commend the effort. a meeting at 8:00 p m Friday June 15 at the REA Building in Stromsburg will elect new officers.

Polk Space Shoot Draws 150 Young Probers

About 150 young astronauts launched helium balloons with self addressed cards at the Polk Main Street intersection. Balloons drifted toward the north northeast with some ending in trees or atop a flagpole. Ed Reckner and Don Miller released a large balloon with a cardboard astronaut. winners will be announced June 30 from the band stand, with Jim Brazda Jr collecting post cards.

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at Polk School Auditorium on Monday June 18 from 10 00 A M to 1 00 P M. Walk ins are welcome and appreciated as the drive aims to meet its quota.

The Pork Summer Recreation program requires funds to operate and is starting low. Donations must come in quickly to continue this year. Operation Bootstrap Tour Tomorrow

Polk County residents are invited to join the Operation Bootstrap Tour tomorrow afternoon leaving Buckley Park along Highway 81 south of Stromsburg at 1 30 p m The tour will visit two irrigated and two dryland beef farms under different management systems Lunch will be served after the tour courtesy of the Stromsburg Commercial Club and the Operation Bootstrap Committee.

Roger Merchant was elected president of the Midland College Lettermen's Club for the next school year. He will also serve as assistant director of the intramural athletic program and works this summer as manager of the Osceola swimming pool.

Detasseling Work Registration Sought in Polk Area

Jim Brazda of Brazda Implement Co states boys and girls are needed for detasseling this year. A registration sign up day is set for Friday June 22 from 10 00 to 11 30 am at Brazda Implement Co with a Columbus Division of Employment representative to collect applications. Those registered may be listed for employer consideration. no charge is involved and prior year sign ups must re register. Farmers needing extra help may inquire about available workers.
