Polk wins the girls softball league title with an 8 7 extra innings victory over Clarks after a weekend tournament in Polk. Clarks and Central City also claimed other top finishes as youth baseball events and recreation fund gifts were noted.
Rodney and Marla Wightman announce the birth of a son named Rod Serling in Lincoln Nebraska. He was born July 6 and weighed 6 pounds 3% ounces. Parents note past teaching and coaching roles.
Sam Wall of Hampton returned home Wednesday after a month in hospital at Aurora and Lincoln General. He is recovering satisfactorily from major surgery.
Hazel Glenn Hill was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Education at the University of Nebraska commencement held July 15 at Pershing Municipal Auditorium in Lincoln. She was one of 415 graduates and attended with Glenn Hill and others. Special honorary degrees went to Theodore Sorensen and Mrs. Samuel McKelvie.

JoElla Stromberg chaired an $8,000 World Champion Matched Steer Roping at Ogallala on Sunday July 20. The event, sponsored by Terry and Mrs. McGinley of Keystone Nebr, funded the Nebraska Crippled Children’s Ass’n and drew 23 top steer ropers roping 4 longhorn steers each with a $350 entry fee. Nearby, Rolland Stromberg and family visited Brule for a reception for JoElla, 1969 Nebraska Easter Seal Child, meeting various Easter Seal and community leaders during a multi-location goodwill tour.
Nebraska's Easter Seal Child JoElla Stromberg was a guest at the Diller Picnic and joined the parade of Happenings To Remember held Friday July 18. The event drew 130 entries. Miss Nebraska Teenager Susan Herman of Wilber also attended with JoElla's parents Mr and Mrs Rolland Stromberg and Mr and Mrs Dwight Burney.

The Arborville ABC Club met at Town Hall on July 12 led by Mrs. John Wochner. Mrs. Ted Otte served refreshments. Two visitors attended. Plans for the fair were discussed and time and place for the next meeting were not decided.
