Swift Revenge for Killing Dog in East Polk
In east Polk on Friday evening the terrier owned by Bud and Donnie Cramer was run down by A. E. Swanson, the second Cramer dog killed by him in recent years. The Cramers sought retribution and Swanson’s dog later visited their yard and was shot by the Village Marshall under orders of Mr. Cramer. The boys mourn the loss of their pet.

Tornado Leaves Seven Dead and Major Damage in Butler County
A tornado struck the western edge of Butler County near Shelby last Wednesday, killing seven people including Mrs. James Henderson and her children, Dedia Altshouse, a David City beauty operator, and the Uphoff and Shunk families. Twelve injured were treated in Columbus hospitals. Lincoln air base soldiers aided cleanup as property losses topped half a million dollars. South of Rising City Surprise suffered further destruction with several stores and homes wrecked. No damage reported in Polk County.

The AAA Office will start accepting subsidy applications for beef cattle around July 20. Payments are 50 cents per hundredweight for good and choice cattle weighing 800 pounds or more and selling for at least 13.85 dollars based on the Omaha market. Applicants must present original sales receipts and, if cattle were not raised by the applicant, provide purchase date and seller details.
