Shelby Couple Observes Golden Anniversary
Mr and Mrs Will Fyfe celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary with a June 27 open house at their Clear Creek precinct home after a June 30 50th anniversary. Sixty relatives shared a dinner at son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Oscar Schmid at Rising City and 200 attended the home event. The Fyfes have nine children and many relatives from Nebraska Illinois Wisconsin and Washington DC. Mr Fyfe born March 27 1876 in Marengo Illinois came to Nebraska in 1880 and married Pearl Brian June 30 1898 at Osceola Nebraska. Pearl Brian born February 5 1879 came to Nebraska in 1880. Both attended local schools and Freemont College. The couple’s long life in Polk County included farming and public service. Mr Fyfe served as precinct assessor for years.

Pleasant Homemakers Hold Meeting
The Pleasant Homemakers 4-H Club met at La Venne Anderson home on June 30 with assistant leader Mrs I L Anderson in charge. Demonstrations covered judging and cooking projects. Three girls earned honors for top work. LaVonne Anderson, Marilyn Hahn, and Shirley Stevens completed their respective first or second year projects. A two course lunch was served and 12 members plus headers and visitors attended. The next meeting is set for July 16 at Sheralee and Sondra Hill’s home.

July 23 features a full day at the 540 acre Anderson farm near Osceola with tours by seven specialists on soils crops and irrigation. Dr Daley D L Gross and others will discuss residue cover stubble mulch farming rotations and land classification while barbecued lunch is provided by the Chamber. Wheat harvest and related rail and storage issues also noted with AAA loans discussed for 1948 grain.
