Farmers Produce Shows Big Increase Over 1950 Income

Manager Vern Jones announced that profits rose for 1961 at the Farmers Produce with net profit for the year at 410,246 dollars. Butterfat commissions totaled 2,557.11 dollars, eggs 3,503.41 and feeds 1,438.36. Chickens yielded only 32.18 in commissions. Truck expenses and taxes were major costs, totaling 110,453 dollars and 531.13 dollars respectively.

4 H members from Pleasant Homemakers 4 H Club attend Polk County Achievement Day in Shelby. State honors include top county club status with $20 for health work and $26 for Rural Arts and Recreation. Frank Hultman Pioneer Dies at 75

Frank Hultman a longtime resident of this vicinity died early Wednesday morning at the Rest Home in Aurora at age 75. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 PM from Brauer Funeral Home with John Hultman, a son, surviving.

Mrs. Walter Stohl Hosts Country Woman's Club

The Country Woman's Club met last Thursday at the home of Mrs. Walter Stohl with about 26 members present. Mrs. Don Ostberg and Mrs. Dean Ostberg sang a duet as part of the program, and a book review was given by Mrs. Cliff Cramer. A lovely lunch was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Stohl, Mrs. Con Lindholm and Mrs. Martha Forss.

Arborville Pastor Eaton to resign March 15

The Reverend E Warle Eaton to end five years as Arborville Congregational pastor on March 15. He came from Scranton in 1947 for a five year tenure and will not renew. Eaton held multiple civic church roles and hinted at future religious or educational positions locally.

Polk Falls 52 to 28 as Hampton Dominates

Polk was outplayed in all phases as Hampton won 52 28. Missing Gaylen Holmes and Frank Ostrander due to flu, Polk relied on Ken Werner and Dale Peterson for 10 and 9 points while Madsen and LeBaron led the winners with 16 and 14. Polk second team lost 42 33. Henderson visits Friday and Polk County Tournament looms next week.

Community Chorus elects officers and plans fourth concert

The Floyd Lyle home hosted a meeting of church music committees to set plans for the Community Chorus fourth concert. Officers chosen for the year include President Mrs Willard Adelson and Secretary Treas Mrs Russell Fjell. Donald Staples will direct with Carlyn Strand as accompanist. Financial balance shown is 39.60 as of June 30.

Polk County CROP drive raises 162.85 for overseas relief

Polk County reports 162.85 donated to the Nebraska Christian Rural Overseas Program, with last year’s county total 1450.70. Contributions fund feeding 805 refugees for twelve months abroad and boost the state goal toward 50,000 for 1954 carloads. County committee thanks contributors and canvassers for aiding war victims and flood drought relief.

Last Rites Held For Mrs Ross Goethe Sr

Mrs. Ross Goethe Sr a former Polk resident died in Grand Island January 17 after two years of illness. Born Edith Marie Leymaster February 12 1884 in Hamilton County she married Ross W Goethe October 7 1906. Survivors include son Ross W Goethe Jr two brothers and three sisters with one granddaughter. Funeral services were held January 11 at Salem United Brethren church with burial in Polk Cemetery.
