Manager Vern Jones announced that profits rose for 1961 at the Farmers Produce with net profit for the year at 410,246 dollars. Butterfat commissions totaled 2,557.11 dollars, eggs 3,503.41 and feeds 1,438.36. Chickens yielded only 32.18 in commissions. Truck expenses and taxes were major costs, totaling 110,453 dollars and 531.13 dollars respectively.
4 H members from Pleasant Homemakers 4 H Club attend Polk County Achievement Day in Shelby. State honors include top county club status with $20 for health work and $26 for Rural Arts and Recreation. Sondra Hill named county Achievement winner and county news reporter. Marilyn Hahn wins three county gold medals in Food Preparation Yard Beautification and Farm Electric. a Foley Food Mill awarded. Sheraleo Hill cited as State Citizenship winner.

Frank Hultman a longtime resident of this vicinity died early Wednesday morning at the Rest Home in Aurora at age 75. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 PM from Brauer Funeral Home with John Hultman, a son, surviving.
Arborville Church Youth Sunday is set for next Sunday February 3 with a special sermon titled Youth and You delivered by the pastor Rev H Barto Caton. Mrs Charles Norquist helped host a shower at the Dr Norquist home near MecCoul for bride to be Miss Lois Holoch. Mrs Alf Shockey attended a dinner at the Fred D Shockey home. Mr and Mrs W Fisher joined Mr and Mrs John Semple for Sunday dinner at Palmer. Mrs Jim Riley Mrs Ernest Salchow and Mrs Fred W Bedlent assisted serving at Dale Perkins home in Bradshaw for relatives attending Electra Perkins funeral. Mr and Mrs C K Budde and daughters of Grand Island were Saturday supper guests of Mr and Mrs Ernest Saitchow and family.
A January 23 District 66 school party at the school house drew a large crowd. Committee in charge included Mr and Mrs Ester Lackey and Mr and Mrs Ted Janky. High women score went to Mrs Harold Cramer. low to Mrs Charles Norquist. Men high was John Bills and low Earl Stevens. Ed Reckner family visited Dale McDermott family for Sunday supper at Grand Island. C C Burgess spent Sunday with Al Peterson. Mrs Wayne Lindholm returned Friday from Clarkson Hospital Omaha.
The Country Woman's Club met last Thursday at the home of Mrs. Walter Stohl with about 26 members present. Mrs. Don Ostberg and Mrs. Dean Ostberg sang a duet as part of the program, and a book review was given by Mrs. Cliff Cramer. A lovely lunch was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Stohl, Mrs. Con Lindholm and Mrs. Martha Forss.
The Reverend E Warle Eaton to end five years as Arborville Congregational pastor on March 15. He came from Scranton in 1947 for a five year tenure and will not renew. Eaton held multiple civic church roles and hinted at future religious or educational positions locally.
The engagement of Berdena to Ervin Ficken of Davenport Nebraska is announced by their families. No wedding date has been set.
Polk was outplayed in all phases as Hampton won 52 28. Missing Gaylen Holmes and Frank Ostrander due to flu, Polk relied on Ken Werner and Dale Peterson for 10 and 9 points while Madsen and LeBaron led the winners with 16 and 14. Polk second team lost 42 33. Henderson visits Friday and Polk County Tournament looms next week.
The Floyd Lyle home hosted a meeting of church music committees to set plans for the Community Chorus fourth concert. Officers chosen for the year include President Mrs Willard Adelson and Secretary Treas Mrs Russell Fjell. Donald Staples will direct with Carlyn Strand as accompanist. Financial balance shown is 39.60 as of June 30.
Polk County reports 162.85 donated to the Nebraska Christian Rural Overseas Program, with last year’s county total 1450.70. Contributions fund feeding 805 refugees for twelve months abroad and boost the state goal toward 50,000 for 1954 carloads. County committee thanks contributors and canvassers for aiding war victims and flood drought relief.
Mrs. Mary Blase hosted a bridal shower for Miss Margaret Knabe of Nehawka, future bride of Don Staples. Iris Richards Lucille Johnson and Mrs Zabel staged a musical skit with Carlyn Strand playing piano. About 24 guests attended including Elizabeth Staples and Nancy McConnaha from Blair.
Social calendar lists February gatherings for Lutheran Layman's League Board of Education Polk Woman's Club Village Board Lutheran Ladies Aid and related clubs with dates and abbreviations for January through February events.
Announcement states Mr Don Staples will direct the Community Chorus for the annual Palm Sunday concert. Leota Sneed led the chorus the past three years and the first practice is this Sunday at Polk Baptist Church starting at 2 30 PM. Mrs Willard Adelson heads the chorus committee and invites all who wish to sing to join.
Polk defeats Ulysses 46 to 42 on the road as Vadicka’s 26 point outburst is quelled in the fourth quarter. Gaylen Holmes leads Polk with 19 points supported by Peterson 12 and Werner 11, while Bill McNaught paces reserves with 7.
Sunday School and Bible Study at Immanuel Lutheran Church led by Pastor Long. A series of Sunday and midweek visits include weddings anniversaries and family gatherings across York Benedict Gresham Bradshaw Seward Osceola and Bradshaw with multiple local residents hosting guests and dinners.
Stewart Stromberg Strand led Burg to a 59 to 42 win over Polk with a 16 point fourth quarter. Mr and Mrs Arnold Neuhaus and their two sons spent last weekend visiting friends and relatives in Clarkson and Leigh.
Mrs. Ross Goethe Sr a former Polk resident died in Grand Island January 17 after two years of illness. Born Edith Marie Leymaster February 12 1884 in Hamilton County she married Ross W Goethe October 7 1906. Survivors include son Ross W Goethe Jr two brothers and three sisters with one granddaughter. Funeral services were held January 11 at Salem United Brethren church with burial in Polk Cemetery.
Mutterings by Mook notes Polk fans’ loyalty as six cars transport the team to the Wes leyan Peru game in Lincoln. Swede Lind and drivers Flgyd Lyle Leand Bower Lloyd Widgse Paul Holmes Nick McNaught are honored for the ride. The column laments driver behavior on sidewalks and questions who allows noon-hour car use, highlighting concern for children and safety.
