Bouquet of Forty Help Thy Fellowman Volunteers at Polk Church

Immanuel Lutheran women led by Mrs. Carl Waak care for Mrs. Wm. Myers, ill for over a year, delivering meals and housework help while offering companionship. Forty named volunteers, including Mrs. Long and Mrs. Blase, provide daily support. Family Night at Polk Theatre runs January 31 to February 1 with a showing of Blossoms In The Dust for 50 cents.

Mae Sigrid Lindahl born May 20 1901 Polk Nebraska died January 16 1951 at home near Polk aged 49 years 7 months 26 days. She was active in church work in Arborville and Polk and survived by Grant Johnson her husband two sisters and two brothers plus many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Brauer Funeral Home and Polk Methodist Church with burial in Arborville Cemetery.

Social Visits Highlight Week in Local Homes

Mr and Mrs Carl Carlstrom hosted Friday evening at the Lyle Dornburgh home with Saturday visitors Mr and Mrs Lawrence Larson. Dean Ostberg visited with her parents Mr and Mrs Glen Thomas of Clark, and others hosted or visited across Hordville Osceola and nearby towns including Rev H G Bodine of Minneapolis who stayed with C O Rodine. Families discussed include the Hoffman and Nyberg households with extended relatives from Hastings and Osceola.

Polk Community Chorus Plans Third Sacred Concert

A Monday meeting on January 15 organized the Polk Community Chorus third sacred concert modeled after Palm Sunday 1950. Mrs Floyd Lyle chaired with Dorothy Dahlin as secretary treasurer and the first rehearsal set for January 21 at the Baptist Church.

Village Board approves lowest bid for Polk sewer project

At a special meeting the Belle village board accepted the Dobson Bros. Construction bid of 78,999 for laying the Polk sewage pipe not including the disposal plant. Total project cost runs about 83,000 with fees. work starts April 1 and ends by August 15.

Polk Puts Away Clarks in Conference Tilt 56 46

Polk leads 15 12 after first period and never trails as McNaught 20 Holmes 16 pace the offense. Clarks trims the gap in the third quarter but Polk finishes with a 12 point final period to seal a 56 46 win and claim a Goldenrod victory. Waldo Peterson tops Clarks with 19 points while Polk reserves push a 46 38 win in the curtain.

Polk High Chorus Attends York College Music Clinic

The Polk High Mixed Chorus joined the third annual Choral Clinic sponsored by York College. Over two days the 450-voice choir rehearsed pieces from Bach to Don't Fence Me In and presented a concert directed by Dr Hayes Fuhr of Hastings College.

Two Polk Teams Face Off in Stromsburg Bowling

Johnnie's Ramblers defeated Kroger's Store two games to one on Stromsburg alleys. Floyd Lyle rolled 213 to lead scoring while Bud Bolton posted the high game for the Ramblers with 181. Players include Lavonne Adelson Hanquist Larson Bolton Green Johnson Eldon Fisher and Kroger names.

Polk Co op Elevator reports large profit at annual meeting

The 21st annual meeting of the Farmers Co operative Grain Association of Polk was held January 17 at Polk High School Auditorium. Net profit reached 16396.73 with gross margin 30107.30 and expenses 10690.41. Directors elected Ewald Klingsporn, replacing Earle Stevens, while other board membersinclude Benjamin Peterson, Harvey Wochner, P. W. Aker and Frank Bolton. Current assets stood at 124697.23 and liabilities at 34083.13.
