Nitrogen Use in Nebraska Agriculture Review
A correspondence from University of Nebraska agronomy professor Robert A. Olson discusses fertilizer nitrogen's economic role and environmental impact. He cites national crop reliance on nitrogen, acknowledges eutrophication concerns, and notes research showing most farming practices use economical nitrogen with limited groundwater leakage except in deep sandy irrigated areas. He urges readers to consider local data and references a Winter Experiment Station Quarterly article.
