Weather column laments poor news in cold spell tale
The weather column jokes about only printing bad news as temperatures plunge. It recalls readings from 15 below New Years Day to widely varying unofficial thermometers, then tracks brief warmups, light snow, and a sequence of frigid days with lingering ice and contrails.
Christmas Holiday Socials and Winter Weather Notes
Local readers recount Christmas Eve gatherings at Levert Oquist and others, a funeral in Osceola for Arthur F. Nelson, and a string of family visits. The piece also covers a cold, snowbound spell with temperatures from minus four to ten degrees, calm skies, and forecasts of more snow.
