Martin Jones Retires After Sixteen Years

Martin Jones retires after sixteen years with the State Railway Commission. He inspected grain storage in commercial elevators and helped place Polk personnel with the commission. Aging driving concerns prompted the exit. a desk job was declined. He plans a cautious approach to loafing, starting by waking later at 5 30.

Cubs Fall to Palmer in Holiday Tourney at Marquette

Polk and Palmer met in a third place game of the Holiday Tournament at Marquette. Palmer pulled ahead 74 72 after a late Cub foul, despite Den Sealey's 23 points and Allan Neuhaus 11 for the Cubs. Mick Nickel led Palmer with 26 as the Cubs missed a final tying shot.

Klingsporn and Johnson Families Welcome New Babies

Mr and Mrs Doyle Klingsporn are parents of a son born Monday January 3 at St Francis hospital Grand Island weighing 9 pounds 11 ounces. A baby girl Jane Allison born December 29 will live with Mr and Mrs Gordon Johnson joining brother Gary in the Johnson home.

Christmas Family Dinner Held in Polk Community Hall

A belated Christmas dinner gathered families at Polk Community Hall on Sunday January 2. Attendees included Clair and Willets, Petersons, Johnsons, Schinzels, Jones, Banksons, Williams, Arlington, and other relatives from Stromsburg Seward Osceola Lincoln Hordville Yutan Falls City Clarks and Ashton. Afternoon visitors were Linnie and Vernie Hoffer.

Randy Neuhaus, son of Mr and Mrs Arnold Neuhaus, was a patient at Bryan Memorial hospital in Lincoln from Monday to Friday for minor knee surgery. Fried Stellers was a patient at Osceola hospital on Monday.
