Polk Bachelor Club Elects Shorty Widga President

The Polk Bachelor Club held its annual meeting in January with most members in attendance. Lawrence Ackerman criticized long four year terms and a two year limit was adopted for all offices. Shorty Widga was named president for a new two year term, and Glen Stevens became treasurer as the club discussed emblems and egg-themed lore.

Binford Couple Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Walter Binford observed their 50th wedding anniversary with a Dec 27 reception in Polk at the Methodist church parlors. About 70 relatives braved blizzard conditions for the event, featuring a 5 tier cake, gifts, and a program of readings, songs, and a history of the couple.

Baby Boy Steven Layne Born to Paul Anderson Family

A baby boy, Steven Layne, was born December 18 weighing 7 pounds 7 ounces to Mr and Mrs Paul Anderson. He joins brother Dennis and sister Paula as the family welcomes the newborn. A baby girl named Ruth Dianne arrived December 27 at Litzenberg Memorial Hospital weighing 8 pounds 7 ounces.

Golden wedding anniversary for Albert Sundberg

Review of 1966 events notes Albert and Mary Sundberg celebrating their 50th anniversary on April 24. The Polk community heard the Easter cantata No Greater Love directed by Rev Gene Wood with Mrs Robert Merchant as accompanist. Mrs Lindley Cook Dies at 68 in Central City

Mrs. Lindley Cook age 68 died Sunday January 1 at Central City hospital after a four month illness. She was wife of Rev Lindley Cook of the Arborville Congregational and Friends churches. Visitation Wednesday at Salt and Byers Funeral Home. Cremation to follow with a memorial service Sunday at the Friends church. She was a noted Friends minister and educator with ties to Nebraska Christian College. Survived by husband, one son Ralph of Camden Maine, and two grandchildren.
