Association for Retarded Children Holds Christmas Program
The Platte Valley Association for Retarded Children held its annual Christmas program at the Opportunity Center in Columbus on December 22. A brief business meeting and carols were sung by members before a visit from Santa Claus. Treats and pop were provided by several individuals and organizations. Coffee and cookies were served to the members. The next meeting is scheduled for Friday January 4 at the Opportunity Center.

Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District advises farmers to inspect fruit trees shrubs and wind breaks for rabbit and rodent damage amid snow scarcity. Rabbits bite bark and prune small limbs. repellants are used by cooperators and applied on trunks or with a brush within 18 inches of cover. The district notes good trees are valuable and offers repellants as a cooperative service.
