Independent Offices Bill boosts 1942 funding in Congress
The House passed the Independent Offices Appropriation Bill the first session of the 77th Congress. The measure raises authorizations by about 181.2 million dollars for agencies including the Bureau of the Budget and the Civil Service Commission to support national defense efforts, with major costs tied to a 100 million emergency fund for the President. The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics receives about 2.4 million more, expanding facilities and adding 397 employees. The article also notes FBI tour suspensions and a Naval Reserve training milestone at Annapolis with 700 recruits en route to commissioning.
