Polk County Adjusts Assessment Rules and Dates
Polk county updates assessment laws with a March 10 date for assessments and a April 20 deadline. Penalties include 60 percent for late filings and a $50 to $2000 fine for false returns. The Board of Equalization meets May 3 for several days to review all property values. Assistants will help at precincts, but taxpayers are responsible. County Clerk John I. Anderson invites inquiries at his office.

Arthur Marshall Dies at Kimball Nebraska
Arthur Marshall, 69, died suddenly at his Kimball home on February 17. He formerly ran a business in McCool Junction and is survived by his widow, two daughters in Ohio and Kimball, two sons in New Jersey and Denver, and two sisters in Omaha and Texas. Funeral services were held in York with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. A local notice mentions visits by relatives and a city cleanup effort followed by a request for ongoing rat control and a proposed two day training school by Tom Turner for town organizations.

Polk Pioneer Pat Crow Dies in Los Angeles at 60
Ex Polk man Pat Crow founder of Polk's first drug store twenty years ago died of a heart attack in Los Angeles where he has lived eight years. He is survived by his wife and three children. Polk friends mourn the passing of this longtime resident.
