Santa Claus In Polk Saturday Draws Beef and Gift Certificates

Santa Claus greeted believers on Polk Main Street Saturday afternoon after the Community Hall events. Drawings awarded $5 gift certificates to twenty five winners and two beef quarters to Leo Tunks and Virgil Sorenson. Over 500 tickets sold. donations from Roger Hanquist, Vern Samuels, and Tony Warnick funded the Summer Recreation Fund.

Richard Sealey Jr Elected County ASC Chairman

Delegates to the Polk County ASC Convention reelected F A Donelson to the county committee for a three year term. Donelson, a Stromsburg farmer, has served six years on the county committee since 1970 and on the Stromsburg precinct community committee since the early 1950s. Nyberg and Peterson won first and second alternates for one year. Richard Sealey Jr of Polk was elected county committee chairman for 1977 with Paul Walgren as vice chairman. Delegates had elected nine farm producers earlier this month. eight attended the convention.

Hospital Patients Return Home From York and Surrounding Hospitals

Mr Russell Fiell returned home from York hospital on Monday to recuperate. Mr Murray Nelson went home Monday after a stay at York hospital from Thursday to Monday. Mr Orlie Miller returned home from St Francis hospital in Grand Island on Friday. Mrs Mary Salchow went home from Central City hospital on Saturday.

Senior Citizens Party plans a card party on Tuesday December 28 at 2 p.m. at Legion Hall. Gift exchange set at 75 cents to 1 dollar with labels for men or ladies.

Cubs Beat Beavers 73 66 to Go 4-1

Polk Cubs, guided by coach Mike Fleming, defeated St Edward Beavers 73-66 to improve to 4-1. Tom Carlstrom scored 29, Vernon Tallman 10, Scott Hudson 13, and Bill Carlstrom 2. Rebounds led by Carlstrom and Tallman with 9 each. Polk shot 50 percent FG and 40 percent FT while Beavers made 10 of 12 charity throws. The Cubs face undefeated Hordville at the Hampton Invitational December 28.

Polk Cadet Linda Swanson Honored in ROTC Fall Awards

Linda Swanson of Polk received the American Veterans of World War I Korea and Vietnam Medal for academic excellence and ROTC performance at the University of Nebraska Lincoln Fall Awards Ceremony. She is NU's first female cadet to win the award and plans to graduate May 1978 aiming for Army Military Intelligence commissioning.
