Polk High Cubs Extend Unbeaten Start With Twin Wins

The Polk High Cubs moved to 4-0 after a 74-56 win over Genoa on December 13 and a 65-48 victory against St. Edward on December 17 in Goldenrod Conference games. Joel Stevens led with 20 points in the Genoa game, while Norm Reckner and Steve Carlstrom added double figures in both contests. Reckner also led rebounds, and Sealey directed assists as Polk improved its season start.

Wayne Heiden and Dan Tyler received Letters of Commendation for high scores on the 1966 National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test announced by Polk High principal John Heywood. They are among 38,000 U.S. students in the upper two percent of future 1967 graduates, ranking just behind the 14,000 semifinalists named earlier this month by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Christmas Program by Commercial Club Draws Polk Crowds

Santa handed out treats and popcorn after a free movie as children and adults enjoyed the Commercial Club Christmas program. A home decorating contest sponsored prizes of 25 15 and 10 dollars to Clarence Johnson Vern Jones and M G Lindburg. Turkeys were awarded to 25 winners. President Dick Harless led activities and Arnold Neuhaus restored the movie projector.
